Pittsburgh, Pa. --- The Villanova men?s soccer team traveled to the University of Pittsburgh today to take on the Panthers in Big East conference soccer action. The contest was filled with lots of physical play and scoring opportunities, but little scoring. A second half goal by Pittsburgh accounted for the only score of the game, as Villanova was downed 1-0. The loss drops the Wildcats record to 2-11-0 overall and 0-9-0 in Big East play in 1999.
The battle of two squads searching for their first Big East victory of the season produced a high level of intensity that produced a total of 11 yellow cards, including one ejection. Villanova best scoring chance of the day even resulted from a penalty kick that sailed just wide to the left. The teams went into the half scoreless, but at 74:36 of the contest, Pittsburgh ended the 0-0 deadlock when Travis Kruse put it home after receiving a cross pass from teammate Miles Dowiak. The shot beat Villanova freshman goalkeeper Sean Teesdale for the game?s only score. Although they would out-shoot the home team 17-15, the Wildcats were ousted 1-0.
The Wildcats play their next game on Wednesday, October 20 at Princeton University to face the Tigers of the Ivy League. The 7:30 p.m. non-conference contest will be televised by the CN8 Television Network.
