Wildcats Add Hoppenot, McDaid to Coaching Staff

Duo brings wide range of soccer experience to staff

VILLANOVA, Pa. - VIllanova head men's soccer coach Mark Fetrow has announced the addition of Antoine Hoppenot and Brian McDaid to the coaching staff.

A short look at each of the newcomers to the Wildcats:

Antoine Hoppenot
Assistant Coach

Former Ivy League Player of the Year and Hermann Trophy semifinalist Antoine Hoppenot was named an Assistant Coach at Villanova in February 2026.

From 2008-11, Hoppenot earned All-American honors as a standout at Princeton University. He was a third-round selection of the Philadelphia Union in the 2012 MLS Draft and later spent time with FC Cincinnati. Later, Hoppenot scored Detroit City's first goal in USL championship history in a 1-0 win over Charleston Battery in February 2022.

He closed out his playing career with Hartford Athletic in 2023.

Head Coach Mark Fetrow: "Antoine is someone who understands the game at a very high level and, just as importantly, understands what it takes to be a great teammate and leader. Throughout his professional career he built a reputation for his work ethic, competitiveness, and love for the game. Those are qualities that will resonate with our players every day.

"We're excited to have him join our staff and to share his experience with our program. I know our players will benefit tremendously from his perspective and the energy he brings to Villanova Soccer."

Brian McDaid
Director of Operations

Brian McDaid joined the Men's Soccer coaching staff in February 2026 after serving three seasons as an assistant coach at The Shipley School in Bryn Mawr, Pa.

A defender and midfielder in his playing days, McDaid was a starter at Dublin City University (Ireland) on a side that finished third in the Collingwood Cup.

In addition to his responsibilities at Villanova, McDaid is the owner of BMD Soccer, a private training company where he has worked with a host of high-level athletes, including Division I and professional players. He also coaches at Sporting PA.

Head Coach Mark Fetrow: "We're excited to welcome Brian McDaid to our staff as Director of Operations. Brian brings valuable experience, strong organizational skills, and a passion for supporting student-athletes. He will play an important role in the daily operations of our program, and we're thrilled to have him join the Villanova Soccer family."
