Wildcats Fall in Field Hockey Thriller

Oct. 23, 1999

Villanova, Pa.- Jennifer Hall scored on a break midway through the first overtime session on Saturday night to give Boston College a 2-1 victory over the Villanova Wildcats in a game played at Villanova Stadium.

This Big East battle was tight throughout.

The Eagles were the first squad to break into the scoring column when Kellie Misiaszek scored at the 18:31 mark of the first period. Boston College took that lead into the intermission.

Junior Nicole DiMaggio (West Chester, Pa.) netted her 13th goal of the campaign early in the second half to pull the Wildcats even at one. Senior Gina Rossi (Norristown, Pa.) was credited with an assist on the goal at the 31:56 mark.

That set the stage for a tight struggle the rest of the way. For Villanova goaltender Meghan Helwig (Basking Ridge, N.J.) made several outstanding saves to keep the game knotted and force overtime.

In the extra session the Wildcats were awarded three penalty corners and came very close to scoring on two of them. However, a strong push at midfield created a break opportunity that led to Hall's gamewinner.

Villanova (10-7 overall, 2-3 Big East) next sees action on Wednesday night when Georgetown comes to Villanova Stadium. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
