Krauss Leads Wildcats Past St. Joseph's

Villanova, Pa.- Senior Mary Krauss (Swarthmore, Pa.) scored four goals to lead Villanova past St. Joseph's 6-1 in a contest played at Villanova Stadium.

In their final home appearance Villanova's four seniors all shined, none brighter than Krauss. She opened the scoring at the 20:53 mark of the first period with an unassisted goal. Krauss made it a 2-0 advantage for the Wildcats at the 6:04 mark of the first period. Senior Gina Rossi (Norristown, Pa.) converted a penalty stroke at the 4:49 mark to make it a 3-0 lead at intermission.

Another senior, Clare Turkington (Collegeville, Pa.) contributed to the offensive attack with an assist on the Wildcats fourth goal of the afternoon, when she fed Krauss for a goal at the 34:10 mark. Krauss notched her fourth goal of the day at the 20:33 mark of the second half before Rossi closed out the Villanova scoring with another penalty stroke conversion late in the second half.

The Wildcats fourth senior, Katie Craig, played an effective game as well.

Meanwhile, Donna Burke scored the Hawks lone goal.

Villanova closes the regular season with a 13-7 record, 2-3 in the Big East. It will make its first Big East Tournament appearance since 1992 on Nov. 5 against an opponent to be determined.
