Oct. 6, 1999

Villanova, Pa.- Senior Katie Craig (Rydal, Pa.) scored a pair of goals and assisted on two others as the Villanova Wildcats rolled to their third straight victory, 6-1 over the Monmouth Hawks on Wednesday night at Villanova Stadium.

Craig initiated the scoring at the 26:31 mark when she fed Clare Turkington (Collegeville, Pa.) who set up senior Gina Rossi (Norristown, Pa.) for a goal on a penalty corner opportunity. After a goal by sophomore Stephanie Vrettos (West Long Branch, N.J.) at the 17:23 mark of the first half made it 2-0 Villanova, Craig scored a goal at the 10:57 mark off a pass from sophomore Krissy Malchitsky (Perkiomenville, Pa.), one of two assists for Malchitsky on the evening.

Senior Mary Krauss (Swarthmore, Pa.) gave the Wildcats a 4-0 advantage at the 5:04 mark with her 10th goal of the campaign off a pass from sophomore Kelly Beine (Medford, N.J.). That was the score at halftime.

Rossi scored her 14th goal of the season nearly 10 minutes into the second half on another penalty corner set up by Craig and Turkington. Beth Watts broke the shutout for Monmouth at the 18:01 mark of the second half and Craig's second goal of the night closed out the scoring at the 12:47 mark.

Goalkeeper Meghan Helwig recorded seven saves in net for her seventh win of the season. Classmate Kim O'Toole (Georgetown, Mass.) finished up in net for Villanova.

The Wildcats (7-5 overall, 1-1 Big East) will be looking for their second straight Big East win on Saturday when Providence comes to Villanova Stadium. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
