VILLANOVA, Pa. - Facing their second straight ranked opponent, the Villanova men's lacrosse team entered a shootout with Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish opened the scoring with four straight goals, jumping out to a 4-0 lead. But the ?Cats retaliated with four goals of their own. Justin Loonie netted two of his three scores, while Adrew Bogle and Clayton Greene tied the game at four apiece. Just as fast as Villanova tied the game, Notre Dame came right back to strike with four more goals to bring the Irish lead to 8-4 at the half.
In the third quarter, the furious pace kept going as Villanova's Chris Larson tallied one of his two goals to open up the second half scoring, bringing the Wildcats within three, 8-5. Exchanging goals throughout, Notre Dame broke the game open on three straight Irish goals by Chris Dusseu, John Flandina and Tom Glatzel, giving ND a 12-7 lead with 9:41 remaining. Determined, Nova gave the Irish one last test on goals by Eric Dauer and Justin Loonie, but the Irish proved victorious, on two final ND goals by Dave Ulrich and Todd Ulrich, as Notre Dame defeated Villanova 14-10.
Villanova was led by Justin Loonie who tallied three goals and John McTigue had three assists in the losing effort. Notre Dame's high-scorer was Dave Ulrich who recorded six points on one goal and five assists. Villanova will face Lafayette at Villanova Stadium on Wednesday, March 17.
