After defeating Rutgers 3-2 on Saturday to reach the ECAC title game, the Villanova field Hockey team fell to Yale 2-0 on Sunday, Nov. 15, in the ECAC Championship played at Yale University in New Haven, Conn. With the loss, the Wildcats end the season with a 13-9 overall record.
The Bulldogs opened up the scoring at the 7:57 mark of the first half when Erin Arruda beat Villanova goalkeeper Sarah Wiggin to give Yale a 1-0 lead. With seven first half saves by Wiggin, however, the Wildcats would hold the Bulldogs scoreless for the remainder of the half to go into intermission down 1-0.
In the second half, Yale would seal the victory at the 20:15 mark when Amanda Walton scored an unassisted goal to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 victory. For scoring the game-winning goal, Walton was named the ECAC Tournament Most Valuable Player. It was the first-ever ECAC Title for Yale, whose head coach Marisa Didio notched her 200th victory with the win. In the loss, Wiggin totaled nine saves in net for Villanova.
