On Sunday, Oct. 4, the Villanova Wildcats were defeated by the host Holy Cross Crusaders, 6-3, in a non-conference contest. Villanova falls to 5-7 on the year as Holy Cross improves to 8-2.
Villanova tied the score at 1-1 just 6:35 into the contest, when junior Mary Krauss scored her fifth goal of the season. Krauss, a native of Swarthmore, Pa., currently has 11 points (five goals, one assist) this season.
The Wildcats once again came from behind to tie the score, 2-2, when Gina Rossi beat Holy Cross goalkeeper Maquel Salley (11 saves) with 15:27 remaining in the first half. Rossi recorded her second goal of the afternoon just 1:10 later off a penalty stroke, giving the Villanova a 3-2 lead with 14:17 left in the half. Rossi, who leads the Wildcats with 13 points (five goals, three assists), cashed in with her second multi-goal performance this year.
Holy Cross managed to manufacture four unanswered goals before the close of the first half, securing their sixth straight victory, defeating the Wildcats 6-3.
Villanova returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 7, at Villanova Stadium when they host Monmouth. Face-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.||
