Joe Caruolo picked up a pair of goals to spark the Villanova Wildcats to a 3-2 victory over the Monmouth Hawks in a men's soccer match played Wednesday afternoon in West Long Branch, N.J.
Caruolo's goals were his first two of the season. The Berwyn, Pa., native was named Philadelphia Soccer Seven Co-Player of the Week last week and started building his case for more honors this week by scoring twice against the Hawks. The junior midfielder now has two goals and two assists on the season for a total of six points, tops among the Wildcats.
The other Wildcat goal came courtesy of freshman Dan Massimini. The product of Downington, Pa., notched the first goal of his college career against the Hawks. Massimini now has four points on the season.
With the victory, Villanova improves to 4-6-1 overall. The Wildcats are 1-4-1 in the Big East Conference and return to Big East action this Sunday afternoon at the Villanova Soccer Complex. Rutgers is the foe in a contest that begins at 2:00 p.m.
