ATHENS, Ga. (AP) - Led by D.A. Layne's 27 points, Georgia ended a three-game losing streak with a 91-80 victory over Villanova Thursday night.
The game was tied 40-40 at halftime before Layne ignited a 12-4 run early in the second half with a scoop shot while crossing the lane. He also hit a jumper from the corner during that stretch, and nailed a 3-pointer that put Georgia up 64-50 with 11:20 to play.
The Bulldogs (7-6) also got 21 points and 14 rebounds from center Anthony Evans in handing the Wildcats (7-2) their first loss since a 98-85 loss to Duke Nov. 17.
Reserve center Robb Dryden also was a factor in the second half as the Bulldogs stretched their lead to 69-55, scoring three baskets and clogging the middle.
Villanova closed the gap in the final minutes and three free throws by Reggie Bryant with 2:11 to play made it 84-77, but that was as close as the Wildcats could get.
Michael Bradley led the Wildcats with 20 points, but missed six of nine free throws. Reggie Bryant contributed 17 points off the bench.
Shon Coleman had 12 points and 10 rebounds for Georgia.
