Villanova, Pa. - The Villanova Wildcats have appointed Steve Pinone associate head coach and added Chris Walker to the staff, head coach Steve Lappas announced today.
Pinone has spent the last nine seasons as an assistant coach to Lappas, the last eight at Villanova. During this period Villanova has recorded a 156-97 mark (.616), made four NCAA Tournament appearances and earned a Big East Tournament championship. The Wethersfield, Conn. native also played on Villanova's 1985 NCAA championship squad.
In addition, Chris Walker has joined the Wildcats as an assistant coach. A 1992 Villanova graduate, Walker ranks seventh on the school's all-time steals list (185) and eleventh on the all-time assists chart (404). He returns to the Main Line after spending last season as an assistant coach at Pepperdine University. Prior to that he served on the staffs at Vanderbilt University and Loyola Marymount.
"We are proud to announce that Steve is now the associate head coach," Lappas stated. "Steve has proven himself in every area and is very deserving of his new title."
"I first got to know Chris when I recruited him as an assistant coach at Villanova," said Lappas. "I felt very strongly about him then and I do now. He is a tremendous addition to our staff."
