Box Score

NEW YORK (AP) - Anthony Glover had 20 points, and Willie Shaw added 18 to lead surging St. John's to an 82-70 victory Saturday over turnover-plagued Villanova.

The Red Storm (10-6, 4-1 Big East) used a 9-0 run early in the second half to take control, and won for the sixth time in seven games.

Villanova (11-5, 3-2) scored the first basket of the second half to get within 34-31, but St. John's then went on the crucial run as the Wildcats turned the ball over on three of their five possessions in that span. Villanova also was forced to play at that point without freshman point guard Derrick Snowden, who picked up his third foul.

Alpha Bangura scored the last three points of the run for St. John's. His free throw with 17:16 to play made it 43-31. Villanova never got closer than seven points thereafter.

The Wildcats finished with 23 turnovers, well over their 17.7 average for the season, but right in line with the 24, 26 and 21 they had in their last three games - two of which they lost. The third of those games was a victory over Virginia Tech last week, in which Villanova rallied from a 23-point second-half deficit.

Omar Cook added 14 points Saturday for St. John's.

Michael Bradley led the Wildcats with 21 points, while Snowden had 12.

St. John's biggest lead was 78-60 on Kyle Cuffe's jumper with 2:44 to play. The win was the third straight for the Red Storm over the Wildcats and fifth in the last six meetings.
