Men's Basketball Claws Past Virginia Tech, 85-83

BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) - Michael Bradley scored 24 points and Ricky Wright came off the bench to add 21 as Villanova beat Virginia Tech in overtime 85-83 in the Hokies first-ever Big East home game.

The Wildcats (10-2, 2-0 Big East) outscored the Hokies (6-7, 0-2) 11-9 in overtime, shooting three of four (75 percent) from the field.

Gary Buchanan scored 13 points, hitting two key freethrows in overtime to put Villanova up for good at 80-79. Brooks Sales added 12 points.

Virginia Tech led 41-36 at halftime, hitting 6 of 11 (55 percent) from 3-point range and committing only three turnovers. Villanova outscored Tech 38-33 after the break, taking its first lead of the game (55-54) with less than ten minutes left in regulation.

Brian Chase came off the bench to lead Virginia Tech with 19 points. Bryant Matthews added 16, and Carlos Dixon scored 15 points, including three of five from 3-point range.

This was only the fourth meeting ever between the two teams. The Wildcats beat Virginia Tech the last time they played in the first round of the 1986 NCAA playoffs.
