Washington, DC. - Georgetown men's soccer (5-7, 3-3) hosted the Wildcats of Villanova (3-10, 1-5) this Saturday in an important BIG EAST match-up.The Hoyas notched a workmanlike 4-1 triumph over the Wildcats.
Hoya freshman forward Kemmons Feldman (Eden Prarie, Minn./ Minnehaha Academy) opened the action for Georgetown just 1:32 into the first period when he scored the game's first goal off a pass from Trevor Goodrich (Palo Alto, Calif./ Palo Alto).
The Wildcats settled into a defensive rhythm, preventing Georgetown from mounting any dangerous rushes. Finally at 35:45 the Hoyas struck again, a shot from Stephen Lambrix (Franklin Lakes, N.J./ Ramapo) grazing off a Villanova defender and sliding into the goal to put the Georgetown up 2-0.
With a combination of solid defense and excellent goalkeeping, the Hoyas managed to fend off the offensive attack from the Villanova forwards. As a team, the Wildcats put nine shots on goal during the game. Hoya goalkeeper Tim Hogan (Richmond, Va./ Freeman) played impressively, making eight saves on the afternoon.
The Hoyas extended on their two-goal lead in the second half when Kevin Sindelar (Potomac, Md./ Churchill) headed the ball into the goal off of a corner kick at the 56:38 mark. 14 minutes later, again off of a corner, his teammate junior Carl Skanderup (Barrington, Ill./ Barrington) scored for the Hoyas, giving his team a comfortable 4-0 lead with only 10 minutes left in the game. Villanova threatened the shutout with a pair of attempts. Hogan was able to save the first but failed to hold onto the ball, which was driven into the goal by Villanova's Ross Brindle. Goodrich assisted on each of Georgetown's four goals in the victory.
