Rogers' Hat Trick Leads Villanova Past LaSalle

Villanova, Pa.- The Villanova field hockey team scored early and often, courtesy of three goals from Rory Rogers, en route to a 5-0 win over area rival LaSalle on Saturday night. With the win, the Wildcats improve to 6-5 on the season, while LaSalle falls to 2-8 overall.

Villanova got on the board when freshman Rory Rogers poked a pass past the LaSalle keeper for her third goal on the season. Rogers would strike again just six minutes later, beating the Explorer goalie off a pass from Leah Lisausky. The game would remain 2-0 in favor of Villanova heading into halftime.

Rogers would collect her third goal on the night with seventeen minutes gone by in the second half. With a flurry of shots on the net, Rogers calmly poked a rebound past a diving LaSalle keeper. The hat trick was Rogers' first of her young career.

The Villanova offense was relentless as a minute later, Leah Lisausky tallied her team-leading eigth goal on the season on a pass from Rogers. With time winding down, Vanessa Pizzulli tallied her first goal of the season, sealing the Villanova win.

Rogers was the offensive star of the night for the 'Cats recording 3 goals and an assist. The goalkeeper tandem of Meghan Helwig and Becky Stanchina recorded five saves on the night, preserving Villanova's second shutout of the season.

The Wildcats are back in action tomorrow when they travel to St. Joseph's to take on the Hawks for a 3:00 game.
