Men's Soccer Falls At Providence 2-0

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College defeated Villanova University, 2-0, in men's Big East soccer action on Monday, Nov. 4. With the win, the Friars finished the season with a 5-5 mark in conference action and clinched a berth in the Big East Tournament for the first time since 1998.

Providence got on the scoreboard at the 11:20 mark when freshman Eoin Lynch scored his team leading eighth goal of the season as he kicked in his own rebound.

The Friars sealed the win in the second half on a goal by freshman Ian Wexler. Wexler received a long pass from senior Jon Alva-Cavero and blasted a shot from outside the box past Villanova goalkeeper Sean Teesdale at 55:08.

Providence sophomore goalkeeper Jeff Newman made four stops in the win. Teesdale recorded five saves for Villanova.

With the win the Wildcats drop to 4-13 overall and 2-8 in the Big East. Providence improves to 7-10 overall and 5-5 in the Big East.

Villanova returns to the Main Line to close out its regular season tomorrow, Nov. 5, at home against Philadelphia University (5-9-1) in a Philadelphia Soccer Seven encounter. The match gets underway at 2:00 p.m.
