The win is Villanova's first in the all-time series with UCLA. The Bruins lead the series 2-1. It was also Coach Jay Wright's first victory over UCLA. In the only other meeting with the Bruins, Wright lost in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. It was Wright's final game at Hofstra.

The win is Villanova's first over a ranked opponent since last season when they defeated No. 16 Georgetown (2/12/01), 59-56.

Villanova guard Gary Buchanan finished the night shooting 6-for-11 from three-point range. It is the eighth time Buchanan has made four or more three-point field goals in a game. In the last five games, Buchanan has connected on 25-of-49 three pointers.

Gary Buchanan has scored in double-figures in 11 consecutive games. This season Buchanan has scored in double-figures in 20 of Villanova's 21 games. Buchanan has scored 20 points or more 11 times this season.

Junior forward Ricky Wright tied a career-high with four assists. Wright also had four assists earlier this season against Notre Dame (1/6/02). Wright finished the night with 12 points, eight assists, and four assists. It is the fifth straight game Wright has scored in double-figures.

Villanova committed a season-low nine turnovers. It is the first time that Villanova has had less than 10 turnovers in a game was last season against La Salle (12/14/01) when they had nine.
