VILLANOVA, PA. - On March 16-17, the Villanova women's water polo team competed in the Hartwick and Marist Invitationals. In the Hartwick Invitational on Saturday, the Wildcats fell to Hartwick by the score of 19-6 and lost to Arizona State 10-8. On Sunday at the Marist Invitational, Villanova lost to Iona 7-6 in the day's first game, but came back to defeat Queens, 8-5, and Marist, 12-10, later in the day.
Against Hartwick on Saturday, Erin Agee led the team with two goals, while Janine Kusza, Aimee Corsiglia, Sarah Oberhauser, and Ellen Howe each tallied one score apiece. Carly Sproul had a team-high three saves in the loss.
In Saturday's second contest on Saturday, Howe recorded three goals and Chesed Ceniseroz scored twice in the loss to ASU. Kusza, Agee, Corsiglia each added one goal each for the `Cats.
Against Iona in Sunday's opening game of the Marist Invitational, Howe scored three goals for the second straight game. Agee, Jenny Rosick and Maria Greshock also added goals for Villanova. In net, Sproul made three saves in the loss.
Versus Queens on Sunday, the Wildcats took an early 4-1 lead and didn't look back as they went on to an 8-5 victory. Howe scored twice, and six other `Cats scored one goal apiece. Sproul saves three shots in goal to earn the win.
Villanova defeated Marist 12-10 to win their second consecutive win of the tournament on Sunday. Howe netted three goals for the third time of the weekend and finished the Wildcats' five weekend games with nine goals. Nine other Villanova players scored for the `Cats versus Marist. Sproul earned her second straight win in goal, saving a weekend-high seven shots.
Villanova will get back into action on Saturday, March 23, as the Wildcats will host the Villanova Invitational.
