VILLANOVA, PA - On Saturday, March 23, the Villanova Wildcats scored the first four goals of the second half and rallied from a three goal halftime deficit en route to a 14-10 victory over Holy Cross at Villanova Stadium. The win gives the Wildcats their first Patriot League victory of the season and improves their overall season record to 3-2 while Holy Cross drops to 4-4 (1-2 Patriot League) with the loss.
Trailing 6-3 to open the second half, Meghan Carolan (Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville) led the Villanova comeback scoring first at the 29:36 mark. After Carolan struck again for her second goal of the afternoon, she fed freshman Steph Haas (North Wales, Pa./Gwynedd Mercy) who beat Holy Cross goalie Kerry Daly at the 21:41 mark to even the score at 6-6. Less than two minutes later, rookie Steph Kelly (Bordentown, N.J./The Peddie School) connected on a shot to put the Wildcats up for good en route to the 14-10 victory.
In the game, Haas and fellow classmate Amy Rocap (Vienna, Va./Paul VI) paced the 'Cats with three goals each on the day. Carolan added two goals and an assist and senior Sarah DePeters (Rochester, N.Y./Irondequoit) added a pair of goals for Villanova. Rounding out the scoring were Lindsey Syphard (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll School), Katie Mannix (Crofton, Md./Archbishop Spalding) and Caitlin Cocks Northport, N.Y./Northport) with one goal apiece.
Holy Cross was led by sophomore Katie Britt who recorded five goals in the game, four of which came in the first half.
Brandy Grenier (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) posted six saves in the net for the Wildcats.
Villanova will get back into action tomorrow afternoon when they travel down the road to battle Philadelphia-rival St. Joseph's in a non-conference match-up. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
