MIDDLETOWN, DEL. ----- The Villanova men's golf team finished a season-best fourth place overall at the Scotty Duncan Memorial on the weekend of April 27-28 (Sat.-Sun.). The Wildcats finished the 36-hole tournament 38-over par with a team score of 606 (304-302). Sophomore Matt Gugino (Leroy, N.Y.) led all Villanova golfers with a ninth place finish.

The tournament included 12 collegiate teams and 59 individual golfers that competed at the par-71, 6,589-yard Frog Hollow Golf Course.

The Wildcats finished 19 strokes off the pace as Navy claimed the team title at the tournament with 19-over-par 587 (298-289). Navy edged first round leader Lehigh who took second place in the tournament shooting 25-over-par (297-296, 593). Navy's Nick Rogers claimed the individual medal with a tournament-best 144 (+2).

Gugino's earned the ninth place finish with a two-round total of 149, seven-over-par. Gugino fired an opening round 73 and followed with a second round 76.

Other top finishers for Villanova include freshman Jeff Parry (Columbia, Md.) and sophomore John Keller (Bayside, N.Y.). Parry's nine-over-par, 151 (77-74) earned him a 12th place finish. Keller shot 11-over-par (75-78, 153) for the tournament to finish 17th overall.

Freshman Charlie Nettleton (Lisle, Ill.) claimed 29th place with a 15-over par effort, shooting 79 on the opening day followed by a 78 on day two for a 36-hole total of 157.

Perhaps the story of the day for Villanova was the performance of freshman Kevin Foster (Newington, Conn.). Foster improved 10 strokes off his opening round score and shot a second-day team best, 74 (+3). Foster's two-round total of 158 (+16) finished him 33rd overall despite the improvement.
