Syracuse, NY-- In their first game of the Big East-Big Ten tournament, the Villanova University field hockey team fell to the Ohio State Buckeyes by the score of 6-2. Villanova's record slips to 3-2, while the Buckeyes also own a 3-2 record.
Ohio State jumped on the board early when Leticia Fragapane found Lucy Clayton for the score just 3:26 into the game. Fragapane notched her own tally ten minutes later, bringing the score to 2-0.
Villanova cut the deficit to one with ten minutes remaining in the first half when junior Leah Lisausky converted a corner from Christina Lugones and Vanessa Pizzulli. It was Lisausky's fourth goal on the season, and the fourth assist for Lugones and Pizzulli.
Four minutes into the second half, Fragapane recorded her second goal of the game, and Vanessa Immordino followed just two minutes later with her third goal of the season.
Villanova sophomore Kelly Driscoll attempted to lead a Wildcat rally with her third goal of the season, but Ohio State came back with two unanswered goals, bringing the score to 6-2.
The Wildcat goalkeepers faced a flurry of Ohio State shots, with Meghan Helwig recording nine saves and Becky Stanchina stopping three. The 'Cats were outshot 29-10 and drew only five penalty corners to Ohio State's 13.
Villanova looks to rebound on Sunday when they face Indiana at 10:00am.
