Bald is Big East Goalie of the Week

VILLANOVA, Pa. - Villanova sophomore goalkeeper Craig Bald (Edgewater, Md.) was named Big East Conference Goalie of the Week on Monday.

Bald posted a solid performance in a 1-0 victory over Seton Hall on Sunday afternoon at the West Campus Soccer Complex. He was credited with five saves in delivering his fourth shutout of the campaign.

Following a freshman season in which he played less than 60 minutes and appeared in only two games, Bald has prospered in 2002. He owns a 5-2-1 record and a goals against average of 0.80. In addition, his save percentage is .829.

Bald and fellow goalie Pat Walsh (Allentown, Pa.) have benefited from a much improved defense in front of them. The Wildcats have surrendered just four goals in their last six games and an average of 0.97 per contest.

Villanova is 7-5-1 on the season, 2-4-0 in the Big East. Its seven wins are the most since 1996.
