WALTHAM, Mass.--In a downpour of rain, the Villanova Wildcats and Boston College Eagles engaged in a 70-minute field hockey battle with BC emerging as the 4-3 victors Friday night at Bentley College. With the loss, `Nova drops to 9-5 overall and 2-2 in the conference, while the Eagles improve to 11-4 and 2-2 in the BIG EAST.
The scoring started on a penalty corner for the Eagles, when Kerri Doherty knocked in the first goal off an assist from Bronwen Kelly with 25:36 remaining in the first half. BC held their 1-0 lead until Megan Foster scored an unassisted goal ten minutes later. Foster would then score the next goal off an assist from Lauren Campanelli to give the Wildcats a 2-1 lead going into the half.
After the half, however, the Eagles came fighting back and Sara York tied the game just 1:55 into the second half. Sabrina Lazzari then made it a 3-2 score when she netted an unassisted goal.
With just 2:40 remaining in regulation, Campanelli came in with her own unassisted goal to tie the game 3-3, but Alyssa Emrick scored the game-winning goal with only 38 seconds to go. At the end of the night, the Eagles out shot the Wildcats 19-8. Goalie Erin Scott had eight saves on the evening, while Vanessa Pizzulli added a defensive save of her own to hold of another BC goal.
`Nova returns to action on Wednesday, October 20th when they head to St. Joseph's to take on the Hawks. Game time is 4:00 PM.
