PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - In its second regatta of the fall season, the Villanova rowing team produced a pair of victories, claiming first prize in the Lightweight Eights and Dad Vail Eights on Saturday at the Navy Day Regatta. The 2.5-mile race was contested downstream on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia.
The Lightweight Eight boat produced a time of 18:24.6 on the course, while the boat in the Dad Vail Eights beat out five other teams with a time of 15:29.9. The Wildcats beat the next closest school, Temple, by 30 seconds. Temple was followed by Loyola College in third place, with St. Joseph's, Bryn Mawr and Drexel rounding out the field.
Villanova also entered two boats in the Collegiate Fours race, with the "B" boat placing third among 15 teams and the "A" boat coming in 11th. The "B" boat had a time of 17:25.3 and finished behind only Pennsylvania and Rutgers. The Wildcats were 30 seconds off the winning time by the Pennsylvania boat. Villanova's "A" boat crossed in a time of 18:57.1.
Villanova continues the fall season at the annual Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston next Saturday and Sunday. The Wildcats will enter the Collegiate Eight and Lightweight Eight races.
