VILLANOVA, Pa. - Three student-athletes have signed national letters of intent to play men's basketball at Villanova, it was announced today. The group includes 6-5 forward/guard Dwayne Anderson of St. Thomas More (Conn.), 6-7 forward Dante Cunningham of Potomac (Md.) High School and 6-8 forward Frank Tchuisi of St. Benedict's (N.J.) High School.
Anderson originally signed a letter of intent with Villanova in November 2003 but elected to enroll at St. Thomas More for the 2004-05 school year. As a senior at St. John's High School in 2003-04 - where he was a teammate of Cunningham's - Anderson averaged 19.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and three assists per game.
"Dwayne is an extremely intelligent and skilled basketball player," stated Villanova head coach Jay Wright. "When you factor in Dwayne's athleticism you have a young man who has the potential to be an exceptional basketball player in our program. Dwayne has played for two outstanding coaches in Paul DeStefano at St. John's and Jere Quinn at St. Thomas More and that will help his transition to the college game."
Cunningham is now at Potomac High School after beginning his high school career at St. John's High School where he made a mark as a versatile forward.
"Dante is going to be a great addition to our program," said Wright. "He is a tenacious rebounder with outstanding athleticism who can play a number of different positions. We believe he will help our team in a lot of ways. Dwayne and Dante are neighbors and close friends. They will bring another family-like bond that will strengthen our program."
The final member of Villanova's early signing period additions is Tchuisi, who came to the United States from his native Cameroon in 2002. The 2004-05 campaign marks his third season at St. Benedict's.
"Frank is an outstanding student with tremendous potential," Wright stated. "He comes from one of the top high school programs in the country where he has been well-coached by Danny Hurley. Frank's best days of basketball are ahead of him."
