Lowry Sidelined By Knee Injury

Aug. 30, 2004

VILLANOVA, Pa. - Freshman guard Kyle Lowry (Philadelphia, Pa./Cardinal Dougherty High School) has suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. Villanova Team Orthopedist Dr. Rob Good is expected to perform surgery on the knee at a later date once swelling in the knee is reduced.

Lowry is sidelined indefinitely. A prognosis for his return to the court is expected to be issued following surgery.

As a high school senior in 2003-04 Lowry, a 6-0 guard, averaged 19 points, eight rebounds, six assists and five steals and was named the Pennsylvania Player of the Year. He signed a national letter of intent to attend Villanova in November of 2003 and began the fall semester at Villanova with other incoming freshmen just last week.

"I'm disappointed for Kyle," stated head coach Jay Wright. "He worked very hard academically and athletically this summer to prepare for his freshman year. My immediate concern is Kyle's well-being heading into surgery. We will make a decision in consultation with Kyle's family and Dr. Good on how to proceed once the surgery is complete."
