Sept. 20, 2004

VILLANOVA, Pa. - Men's soccer freshman Dan DeMasters has been selected as the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week, the conference announced today. DeMasters scored both goals in a 2-1 victory over #6 Boston College on Saturday.

The Wildcats improved to 2-0 in conference play by handing the Eagles their first loss of the season. DeMasters scored the first goal of the game on a feed from senior Jonathan Lopuski, and then provided the game-winner at the 74:01 mark.

In his first five games at the collegiate level, DeMasters has scored three goals on 13 shots and added one assist. He has helped lead Villanova to an undefeated (4-0-1) beginning to the season, and is the first Wildcat to earn conference Rookie of the Week honors since Felix Rodriguez on September 15, 2003. Villanova is one of only two conference teams to remain undefeated this season (Pittsburgh is 2-0-2).

Through games of September 19, DeMasters was tied for third in the conference in goals per game and ranked eighth in points per game. Villanova plays three of its next four games at home, beginning with a Wednesday afternoon tilt against Rutgers. Game-time is set for 3:30 p.m. on the West Campus Soccer Field.
