WASHINGTON, D.C. - Villanova Field Hockey (1-0) started the season on a high note Monday evening defeating the Georgetown Hoyas (0-1) 7-1 at Kehoe Field in Washington, D.C. Junior Megan Foster scored two goals to lead the Wildcats to their first win of the season.

`Nova got on the board first when senior captain Natalie Balthrop capitalized on a Georgetown penalty to score at 6:37. The Hoyas soon matched when Katie Lachman took a pass from Maggie Farrand and slid it past VU keeper, Erin Scott, at 10:11.

That would prove to be the Hoya's lone goal of the day as Villanova kicked off a 6-0 scoring run. Junior, Sara Schmidt, began the slew of goals converting a Rory Rogers' pass at 14:23. Just four minutes later, forward Lauren Campanelli took advantage of a rebound from Hoya goalkeeper, Abby Winer, to make the score 3-1. Rogers, a member of the Big East Preseason All-Conference squad, scored her first goal of the season off of Campanelli's penalty corner at 24:34. Villanova's final goal of the half was a minute later when Foster knocked the ball past Winer, Rogers was credited with the assist. The teams went into the locker room with the `Cats up 5-1.

Foster started the second period where she left off in the first scoring her second goal of the season at 41:19. Freshman Allison Boris rounded out the scoring for the `Cats scoring her first collegiate goal. The product out of Lake Lehman High School registered an unassisted shot at 58:17 to make the final score 7-1.

Villanova topped the Hoyas in shots 19-6, while Georgetown had the advantage in saves 7-3.

The Wildcats will host their home opener this Friday at Villanova Stadium as they take on the Bucknell Bison at 7:00 PM.
