Final Stats

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Georgetown scored one goal in the first half and another in the second while holding Villanova scoreless to post a 2-0 win over the Wildcats in Big East action here on a humid afternoon Friday. Georgetown is now 5-2-0 overall and 2-1-0 in the Big East while the `Cats fall to 3-4-0 overall and 2-1-0 in the Big East.

Ben Jefferson-Dow broke a scoreless tie at the 40:55 mark of the first half. He knocked in a scissor kick from the top of the box. Harri Halonen and Brent Plumley were awarded assists on the play. The Hoyas owned an 8-3 advantage in shots over the Wildcats in the first half.

The Wildcats' hopes for a rally suffered a setback when the Hoyas scored their second goal at the 60:52 mark. Richard Frank drove a shot past Wildcats keeper Jason Friel (Dublin, Pa.) for an unassisted goal.

Villanova twice hit the crossbar on scoring chances.

"I thought we played well," stated Villanova head coach Larry Sullivan. "We got a great game from Brett Stassfurth and Jon Wells. We just couldn't get the score that would have changed the whole mood of the game.

"I saw a lot of good things out there. We just have to get ourselves together and be ready for Seton Hall on Sunday."

The Wildcats travel to South Orange to face the Pirates at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
