Sept. 7, 2005

Box Score

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Villanova stayed perfect Wednesday afternoon at Drexel as it beat the Dragons 3-1 at Buckley Field. The Wildcats played the city school evenly in shots having a one shot advantage 12-11, and also saves stopping six as opposed to Drexel's four. Junior Megan Foster had another big game for the `Cats with one goal and an assist while Rory Rogers kept pace with two goals.

Foster, started off the attack with a goal at 14:22 off of a penalty corner. Lauren Campanelli took the ball on the endline and passed it out to Sara Schmidt. Foster then took the ball and made a move in the circle to sneak the goal into the top right corner of the net for an unassisted goal. This made the score 1-0 going into half, but it was nowhere near the end of the scoring.

Ten minutes into the second half `Nova kept the advantage after a Rory Rogers goal. Schmidt started the play sliding it to Foster who got the ball to Rogers on the left side of the circle. She smacked in her first of two on the night giving the `Cats a two goal lead which would prove to be the game winner.

Drexel soon answered as Villanova committed fouls in the circle resulting in penalty corners. Amanda Mouser had the ball on the line and Cassie Prentiss steadied the pass giving Rachael Bloemker an opportunity to get the ball past `Cats' keeper, Erin Scott.

Villanova registered one more goal late into the second half as Foster passed to Rogers who beat the "D" at the top of the circle making the final score 3-1. This gives Foster ten points (four goals, two assists) and Rogers eleven (four goals, three assists)

This is only the second time in Villanova field hockey history that the team has started out 3-0, the first being in 1985. The Wildcats look to continue their success with a big game this Friday at Penn State at 7 p.m.
