Final Stats
VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Villanova Wildcats (3-11, 0-5 Patriot League) could not overcome an early 5-0 deficit to beat the Bucknell Bison (3-9, 1-3 Patriot League) Saturday at Villanova Stadium. Alex Garvey (Summit, N.J.) and Christina Bahrs (Oceanport, N.J.) led the Wildcats with two goals each.
The Bison controlled the opening fifteen minutes, putting away five goals before Villanova could find the cage. Sarah Collins scored two of her three goals in this run. At 7:40, Garvey sliced down the right side to make the score 5-1. However, Bucknell came back with three goals in the next two minutes.
Bahrs scored her first goal at 5:13 off of a free position attempt. Once again, Bucknell was able to answer making the score 9-2 at the break. The beginning of each half proved to be a trouble spot for the `Cats as they gave up three goals to start the second stanza. At 21:26 Garvey took a shot over her shoulder while running right to give Villanova another goal. Six minutes later, Bahrs received a pass from Cindy Koza (Thorton, Pa.) and sailed it past Bucknell keeper, Lizzy McDaniel. The Bison scored their last goal at 13:13 making the final 13-4.
Jessica Brozena (West Long Branch, N.J.) took the loss and McDaniel had the win. Villanova was outshot 23-12, but did have 33 groundballs to Bucknell's 22.
The Wildcats will host Mount St. Mary's on Sunday in their final home game of the season. There will be a pre-game ceremony honoring the three seniors beginning at 12:45 p.m.
