VILLANOVA, Pa. - Freshman forward Mike Seamon (Rahway, N.J./Union Catholic H.S.) enjoyed an impressive start to his college career this past weekend with a goal and two assists in a pair of Villanova victories. That effort was recognized on Monday when the Big East Conference named Seamon Rookie of the Week.
In his college debut against Drexel on Aug. 25, it took Seamon a little over 13 minutes to break into the scoring column. He accepted a feed from teammate Joe Taylor (Southampton, Pa./A.B. Wood) and sent a headed ball past Dragon goalkeeper Cory Robertson to stake the Wildcats to a 1-0 lead. He later assisted on a Taylor goal to help secure a 3-1 triumph over the rivals from the Philadelphia Soccer Seven.
On Sunday afternoon, Seamon was again instrumental in a goal. This time, his run along the left side set up a blast from classmate Victor Faustino (Laytonsville, Md./The Heights) that caromed off a Richmond defender into the back of the net. That finished off a 2-0 victory.
In addition, Taylor was named to the Big East Honor Roll for the week. The sophomore contributed a goal and two assists in Villanova's 2-0 start.
