Wildcats Defeated at Drexel 15-2

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Playing a local game on Sunday afternoon, Villanova (1-2) was defeated 15-2 by Drexel (3-1). The Wildcats were unable to control play against the Dragons, who held a 41-8 shot advantage in the contest.

Drexel opened the game with three unanswered goals in the first 6:20 and eventually led 6-0 late in the first half before junior Amanda Carlson (Middle Island, N.Y.) scored the first Villanova goal with just under four minutes left in the period.

Wildcat senior goalie Jessica Brozena (West Long Branch, N.J.) had her hands full with the Dragons attack and made 14 saves on the day, including 10 in the first period to keep the deficit at a manageable distance.

The second half started with a flurry for Drexel, which scored just over a minute into the period and added four goals in the first 10 minutes of the half. Sophomore Shannon Sullivan (Park Ridge, Ill.) scored with 5:18 left in the game to account for the lone Villanova score in the final 30 minutes.

Emily Hoesch had six goals to lead all players in the game and broke the Dragons career scoring record in the process. Katie Bradley had four assists for Drexel and the Dragons owned a 14-7 edge in draw controls while limiting the Wildcats to just nine groundballs in the game.

Lauren LaBella had two saves in the net for Drexel before turning the game over to Rachel Behrndt, who also made two stops in goal.

Villanova returns home next Sunday at Noon to host Central Connecticut State.
