Aug. 30, 2008

Final Stats

Lewisburg, Pa. -

Villanova (1-0) started off the 2008 season on Saturday with a 2-0 win against Bucknell (0-1). Sophomores Lauren Wuzzardo (Bridgeton, N.J.) and Dana Ramsden (Woolwich Township, N.J.) led the team to victory, each scoring goals in the first period. The Wildcats defense played a big role in the success as they held the Bison scoreless and allowing only seven shots.

Wuzzardo carried the momentum of the 2007 season into the game. She struck quickly with an unassisted goal 1:07 into the game. Ramsden, coming off a redshirt season, added to the lead sixteen minutes later with a goal assisted by Wuzzardo.

Sophomore Goalkeeper Maura McCormick (Forty Fort, Pa.) recorded the fourth shutout of her career playing all 70 minutes in goal for the Wildcats. She had five saves on the day keeping Villanova in command.

The Wildcats had some new faces on the field as two new players debuted. Freshmen Jordan Lynn (Charlottesville, Va.) and Michelle Arfuso (Mt. Holly, N.J.) both saw the first action of their Villanova careers.

Bucknell was led by Amanda Faust's four shots, but they were unable to get the ball in the net. Goalkeeper Jessie Atieh played the entire game for the Bison recording six saves allowing two goals.

Villanova will open their homstand of six games beginning Wednesday September 3rd at 7:30 p.m. against Rider.
