Final Stats
Villanova, Pa. - Villanova (4-0) defeated Fairfield (1-3) 4-0 Sunday at Villanova Stadium to remind undefeated on the season. Sophomore goalkeeper Maura McCormick (Forty Fort, Pa.) recorded her fourth shutout and Sophomore Dana Ramsden (Woolwich Twp., N.J.) had a goal and two assists for the Wildcats.
McCormick and the Villanova defense allowed the Stags only four shots and McCormick had a save in the win. This was the first time in team history that the Wildcats recorded four shutouts to start the season.
On the offensive side of the ball Sophomore Lauren Wuzzardo (Bridgeton, N.J.) started things off 4:28 into the game with her second goal of the year. Freshman Abby Sordoni (Shavertown Pa.) passed the ball across the middle and Wuzzardo, after a couple maneuvers, was able to complete the play.
The Wildcats struck again early in the second half on a goal by Sordoni. With a pass up the middle from sophomore Dana Ramsden (Woolwich Twp., N.J.), Sordoni was able to get the ball in the net for her first goal of the season.
Junior Emily Donaldson (Glassboro, N.J.) had a goal 49:42 into the game. Ramsden took a shot from the middle of the goal which Donaldson was able to tip in to put the Wildcats up 3-0.
Ramsden also had a goal of her own at 57:34. With an assist from sophomore Meg Ryan (Wayne, Pa.), Ramsden recorded her fifth goal of the season.
Fairfield goalkeeper Jennifer Utz had four saves for the Stags and Hilary Burns had the only shot on goal.
This is the first time in the programs history that the Wildcats have started off the season with four straight wins. Today's game marked the first meeting for Villanova and Fairfield.
Next up for the Wildcats is Drexel who they will meet at Villanova Stadium on Wednesday September 10th at 7 p.m.
