Final Stats
Villanova, Pa. - The Wildcats (3-0) remain undefeated after a convincing win over BIG 5 opponent Penn (1-1) Saturday. Villanova received goals from eight different athletes in the 14-7 victory.
After giving up two early goals to the Quakers, the Wildcats made a statement scoring five unanswered goals and would never trail again. The streak included goals from senior Matthew Fritts (Dallas, Tex), junior Paul Webber (Manhasset, N.Y.), sophomore T.J. O'Donnell (Randolph, N.J.) and a pair from senior Tim Langan (Madison, N.J.).
After the Quakers answered with a score, senior Tim Driscoll (Montville, N.J.) had his first goal of three in the game. With an assist from sophomore Mike Brennan (Manhasset, N.Y.), Fritts has his second score, putting the Wildcats up 7-4 at the half. Brennan, who had three assists in the game, now leads Villanova with seven in 2009.
Villanova opened up the second half with a goal at the 11:36 mark by freshman Matt Bell (Serverna Park, Md.). The score was the first of Bell's Wildcat career.
Following a Penn goal to make the score 8-5, Villanova went on another scoring streak to bring their lead to 11-5. The first of the three goals was the first career goal of another freshman in CJ Small (San Diego, Calif.). The other two goals were notched by Driscoll who continues to lead the team with 10 goals. To close out the third quarter, Small recorded another goal with 0:08 seconds remaining, for his second of the day.
At the start of the fourth quarter, Fritts had his third goal of the day, which makes him second on the team this season with six. Senior Chris MacDonald (Westfield, N.J.) had a goal with 2:02 remaining in the game to make the final score 14-7.
The Wildcats senior Andrew DiLoreto (Wilton, Conn.) remains a key component of the teams' success as he had 13 saves in the game. DiLoreto earned his third win of the season and has a goals against average of 4.78.
Craig Andrzejewski led the Quakers with three goals and an assist on the day. Penn's goalkeeper Greg Murray recorded the loss ad he had nine saves in the contest.
Villanova takes their win streak on the road to Binghamton Saturday where face-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
