Final Stats
Hempstead, N.Y. - Villanova (9-5, 3-3 CAA) suffered a 10-3 loss Saturday to No. 9 Hofstra (11-2, 6-0 CAA) in their regular season finale. Senior Tim Driscoll (Montville, N.J.) recorded a goal and an assist in the contest.
After allowing a goal to the Pride to begin the game, the Wildcats received a goal from senior Dan Liva (Bryn Mawr, Pa.). With an assist from senior Matthew Fritts, (Dallas, Tex.) Liva tied the game at one with 6:36 remaining in the first quarter.
Again Hofstra would take the lead only to have Villanova answer. To make the score 2-2, freshman Kevin Cunningham (Garden City, N.Y.) notched his seventh goal of the season with an assist from Driscoll.
Villanova would allow five straight goals in the second and third quarters to bring the score to 7-2. Driscoll tallied his 24th goal of the season with less than two minutes remaining in the third quarter. Driscoll led the Wildcats the entire 2009 season in goals and finished with two assists.
Hofstra would go on to score three more goals for a final of 10-3. Tom Dooley and Kevin Ford led the Pride with three goals each while goalkeeper Andrew Gvozden recorded 10 saves and earned the win.
Villanova senior goalkeeper Andrew DiLoreto (Wilton, Conn.) notched 11 saves in the contest bringing his season total to 120 and 381 for his career.
Senior Chris MacDonald (Westfield, N.J.) and Fritts continuted their streak of recording at least one point in each of Villanova's 14 games this season. Fritts finished with 19 goals and four assists while MacDonald had eight goals and 19 assists.
The Wildcats will head to the CAA Semi-Final game for the second year in a row. Villanova is the No. 4 seed and they will take on top seeded Hofstra in a rematch Wednesday April 29th.
