Villanova, Pa. - Villanova field hockey players Steffi Caniglia and Dana Ramsden were honored by the BIG EAST Conference this week by being selected to the BIG EAST Honor Roll for their performances against Ball State and Fairfield University over the weekend. The team came home with two wins during the road trip in Fairfield, Connecticut.
Senior captain and back Steffi Caniglia has been a force in the backfield for the Wildcats since her freshman year. In her career, Caniglia has appeared in every single contest during her time on the Villanova field hockey team and is currently in her second year as captain. Over the weekend she continued to show her composure and dominance in the backfield, helping to lead `Nova to double victories.
Redshirt junior Dana Ramsden played a major role in the wins over Ball State and Fairfield this weekend, compiling one goal in each victory, good for 4 points over the weekend. Ramsden is one of the key offensive players on the turf this year and is no stranger to earning accolades for her on-field performances. In 2008, she was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team, Longstreth/NFHCA All-Region Second Team, All-Philadelphia Team and BIG EAST All-Academic Team.
The Villanova field hockey team is back in action this weekend for the Vonnie Gros Classic to be held at West Chester University. On Friday, September 11th VU takes on #4 ranked UNC at 4pm and is back in action on Saturday, September 12th vs. Appalachian State at 6:30pm.
