NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The No. 15 ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish (7-4 overall, 3-1 BIG EAST) seized the advantage in the game's first 10 minutes and went on to post a 16-0 victory over Villanova (7-3, 0-2 BIG EAST) in a women's lacrosse game played here at Arlotta Stadium. The contest was the Wildcats' first ever BIG EAST road game.
Kailene Abt opened the scoring at 29:06 when she converted a free position attempt. Less than a minute later, Abt fed Maggie Tamasitis with a pass that resulted in another goal to extend the lead for the Fighting Irish to 2-0.
Abt was one of four Irish players to score in the next eight minutes. With ten minutes gone in the contest, Notre Dame held a 6-0 edge. A pair of goals from Shaylyn Bailey 45 seconds apart midway through the half pushed the lead to 8-0. The Irish would score twice more before halftime.
Senior Erica Rybinski led Villanova with four shots, including three on goal. Junior Maggie Langan made five saves in goal before giving way to freshman Amanda Hirschfeld in the second half.
Ellie Hilling made eight saves in net for Notre Dame.
The Wildcats look to bounce back on Tuesday evening when they host Rutgers in a BIG EAST contest at Villanova Stadium (7:30 p.m./Nova Nation All-Access).
