CINCINNATI, Ohio - Complete Women's Results
It was a wet day at Gettler Stadium, but the Villanova women's track and field squad concluded the 2010 BIG EAST outdoor championships with two individual titles as junior Sheila Reid won the 800m and sophomore Shericka Ward took the title in the 100m hurdles.
Ward's victory gave the Wildcats 10 points in team scoring as she crossed the finish line in a very quick 13.55 seconds. This was Ward's first individual conference title.
Reid ran a strong race in the 800m winning the individual title by .41 seconds as she recorded a time of 2:06.38. She added 10 points for Villanova.
Three Wildcats scored for Villanova in the 1,500m run. Senior Nicole Schappert just missed an individual title in the event as she finished in second place by a mere .02 to Karly Hamric from West Virginia. She recorded a time of 4:28.04. Senior Ellen Dougherty was close behind coming in third place in a time of 4:28.56, while freshman Bogdana Mimic earned fifth place as she crossed the finish line in 4:30.65.
Junior Kristen Mahon nabbed fifth place in the 400m hurdles to score for the Wildcats. She crossed the finish line in 1:00.72.
Kaitlyn Tallman recorded a fifth place finish in the 5,000m run as she recorded a time of 16:57.05.
In field events, sophomore Julia Arduini took seventh place in the javelin throw to score two points for the Wildcats. Her throw cleared 42.73 meters in the finals.
Villanova's 4x800m relay squad earned third place honors in one of the final events of the day. Freshman Shannon Browne, Schappert, Dougherty and Reid combined to post a time of 8:43.15.
Villanova finished fifth in the team scoring with 67.50 team points. Louisville took the 2010 team title with Connecticut earning runner-up honors. Georgetown and West Virginia finished third and fourth, respectively.
