PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The No. 2 ranked Maryland Terps (2-0 overall, 0-0) seized the advantage in the first two minutes of the game and went on to post a 5-0 win over Villanova (0-2 overall, 0-0) at Geasey Field on the Temple University campus. The contest marked the second loss of the weekend for the Wildcats as they began the 2010 season.
Maryland's Katie O'Donnell notched the first of the Terps five first-half goals at the 1:30 mark, followed by Jemma Buckley with 10:08 on the clock. Both scores were unassisted as Maryland took the early 2-0 lead with 25 minutes left to play.
Kirstie Dennig and Ali McEvoy also recorded goals for the Terps with both scores coming off of penalty corners. Assists were credited to Lauren Barr, O'Donnell, Colleen Gulick and Janess Pope, respectively. Lindsey Puckett also found the back of the net after scoring on a feed from the top of the circle provided by Megan Frazer with 16 minutes remaining in the half.
Villanova's Megan Goelz (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) made 12 saves in the defeat while Maryland's Natalie Hunter is credited with the win and one save.
The Wildcats will look to rebound when they take part in the annual Vonnie Gros Classic hosted by West Chester University on Sept. 10th and 12th when they face North Carolina and Columbia. Game times are scheduled for 4 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., respectively.
