Cheek Named to BIG EAST Honor Roll

VILLANOVA, Pa. - Dominic Cheek's fast start to the 2011-12 regular season earned him notice on this week's BIG EAST Honor Roll, it was announced today by the BIG EAST Conference office in Providence, R.I.

The product of Jersey City, N.J., averaged 22.0 ppg as the Wildcats defeated Monmouth, La Salle and Delaware to open the season at the Pavilion. Cheek's 27 points against Monmouth established a new career-high and he added 21 more, including 19 in the second half, in Friday night's 79-79 victory over Delaware.

In addition, Cheek averages 6.0 rpg.

Another Wildcat, junior Maalik Wayns, was named to the Honor Roll of the Philadelphia Big Five on Monday. Wayns sparked a comeback victory over La Salle in the Big Five opener for both schools on Nov. 15 and followed that up with a 21-point, five assist effort in the win over the Fightin' Blue Hens.

Villanova heads west for its next action. The Wildcats meet UC Riverside on Thanksgiving Day at 4:30 p.m. EST/1:30 p.m. PST at the 76 Classic in Anaheim, Cal. The 'Cats will meet either Boston College or Saint Louis on Friday afternoon and complete the event with a game Sunday against an opponent to determined.
