PROVIDENCE, R. I. - Sophomore Billy Hurley (Morristown, N.J./Delbarton) has been named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll for the first week of the season, the conference announced Monday afternoon. Hurley made eight saves in the 9-8 victory over Lehigh on Saturday, including four stops in the fourth quarter to stifle a late attempt comeback by the Mountain Hawks. The keeper also captured two ground balls in the victory.
The award is the second BIG EAST accolade for Hurley in his career, earning his first conference award on May 3rd, 2010. Hurley was also named to the Inside Lacrosse Team of the Week on March 23rd, 2010. His start on Saturday was the 11th of his career.
The Wildcats captured their first win to open the 2011 season, prompted by a third-quarter rally with goals from junior Matt Bell (Severna Park, Md.) and sophomores Jack Rice (Baltimore, Md.), Will Casertano (Millbrook, N.Y.) and Max Hart (Bethesda, Md.). Junior Kevin Cunningham (Garden City, N.J.) led the team with two goals and two assists while Casertano posted two goals and an assist of his own in the balanced offense effort.
Villanova begins a three-game road stand this coming Saturday, February 26th when they face Bucknell University for a Noon matchup in Lewisburg, Pa.
