CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Villanova water polo team put up 25 goals in the Harvard Invitational and posted a win versus Boston College in their first games of the season.
In the Wildcats opener against Iona, senior Nicole Lum posted a goal, two assists and four steals, but it wasn't enough to seal the victory as Villanova fell, 16-5, versus the Gaels. Hannah Ishida, Emily Ryan, Sara Armel and Lauren Peachey also notched one goal apiece in the loss.
Versus Boston College, Julia Penkal, Kathleen Maloney, Ryan and Peachy all posted multiple scores in the 15-4 victory over the Eagles club team. Freshman goalie Sam Goff tallied seven saves in the win while Lum led the team with four steals.
In the final match in the two-day event, Lum posted a trio of scores while Ishida contributed another two goals in the 20-5 loss against host institution Harvard. Katie Hannigan tallied three steals in the defeat.
The Wildcats will be back in action this coming weekend when they travel to Princeton, N.J. for the Princeton Tournament. Villanova is scheduled to play Colorado State, Pacific, Brown and George Washington in the two-day event.
