Karalunas Named Tewaaraton Trophy Nominee

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Villanova standout Brian Karalunas has been selected as a nominee for the 2011 Tewaaraton Award, given to the most outstanding player in collegiate lacrosse. Karalunas joins 24 other college lacrosse stars on the official list of nominees released by the Greater Washington Sports Alliance on Monday, April 18th.

The Tewaaraton Award has been presented to the national player of the year every season since 2001 and will be handed out on June 2 at the Warner Theatre in Washington, D.C.

Karalunas, one of the best long-stick midfielders in the country, has had a stellar 2011 season thus far and has collected 52 caused turnovers and 49 ground balls, in addition to one assist. He currently leads the NCAA averaging 4.73 takeaways per game and is also a finalist for the coveted Lowe's Senior CLASS Award.

The Tewaaraton Trophy Watch List began with over 100 names and has been whittled down to 25 as lacrosse season is fully underway.

Karalunas and the Villanova Wildcats will return to action on Saturday, April 23rd when they travel to Jamaica, N.Y. to face the St. John's Red Storm. Face-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. at DeSalvia Memorial Field.
