Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - The Metro Atlantic Athletic Association (MAAC) held its annual end of the year awards banquet on Friday, April 26, in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. It was announced at the banquet that senior Hannah Ishida (Honolulu, Hawaii) earned first team All-MAAC honors, while freshman Naomi Ng (Kapolei, Hawaii) was named to the second team. This is the second straight year that Ishida has been a first team honoree.
Iona's Amy Olsen was named the league's Offensive Player of the Year and Rebecca Thomas from Marist was the Defensive Player of the Year.
Ishida currently ranks second on the team in both goals (41) and assists (26) to go with 33 steals and 15 blocks. Ng finished the regular season with 25 goals, 10 assists and 32 steals.
It was also announced that Villanova had a conference-high 10 student-athletes named to the MAAC All-Academic Team. To be eligible for this team, a student-athlete must complete two semesters at their institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or better.
The 10 Wildcats named to the All-Academic Team include Maria Campanile (Burr Ridge, Ill.), Sadie Dutcher (Pasadena, Calif.), Callan Edwards (Oxnard, Calif.), Sarah Kesack (Harleysville, Pa.), Erin Malone (Sydney, Australia), Lauren Peachey (Harleysville, Pa.), Julia Penkal (Harleysville, Pa.), Elaine Resso (Modesto, Calif.), Emily Ryan (Chicago, Ill.) and Ishida.
Villanova will be the No. 4 seed in tomorrow's MAAC Championships. The Wildcats will play No. 1 seed Wagner at 3 p.m. In the other semifinal, No. 2 seed Iona will face No. 3 seed Marist. The two winners will meet in Sunday's championship at 2 p.m.
