Oct. 27, 2014 VILLANOVA, Pa. - Sophomore forward Max Kroschwitz scored the decisive goal for Villanova in Saturday's pivotal 1-0 victory over Butler and on Monday was honored by both the BIG EAST Conference and Philly Soccer Six.
Kroschwitz (Pipersville, Pa.) was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll and is also the Philly Soccer Six Player of the Week.
The Wildcats and Bulldogs were engaged in a tight defensive battle after 80 plus minutes at the Higgins Soccer Complex when Kroschwitz re-entered the game. Prior to his re-entrance into the match, head coach Tom Carlin told him "this is your time."
With just 3:37 to go in regulation time, Kroschwitz won a battle in tight with a Bulldog defender and sent a shot into the net to boost the Wildcats to a 1-0 lead. They would hold that advantage over the final minutes to level their BIG EAST record at 2-2-2 (7-5-3 overall).
"Max is a goal scorer," stated Carlin in the moments after Saturday's victory, "and he was able to knock one in for us at a big moment."
The Wildcats have three games remaining in the regular season as they pursue a spot in the BIG EAST championship. Villanova has consecutive road dates at St. John's (Oct. 29) and Xavier (Nov. 2) before returning to West Campus on Nov. 7 to close out the regular season against Georgetown at the Higgins Soccer Complex.
