Nov. 12, 2014 VILLANOVA, Pa. - A pair of Villanova Wildcats earned accolades from the BIG EAST Conference in its announcement of post-season honors this week.
Senior forward Aaron Dennis (Elmont, N.Y.) was named second team All-BIG EAST in a vote of the league's head coaches. Dennis tied for the team scoring lead with classmate Hayden Harr with six goals and two assists despite missing two full contests with a leg injury early in the season.
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Will Steiner (Point Lookout, N.Y.) was named to the BIG EAST All-Rookie team. Steiner retains freshman eligibility despite being in his second year as a member of the Wildcats since he did not appear in any games during the 2013 regular season campaign.
Steiner played every minute in goal for the Wildcats in 2014 and was outstanding in stepping into the void left when Andrew Weakly shifted into a student assistant's role after handling the bulk of the work in goal last season. Steiner started all of Villanova's 19 games in 2014 and posted an 0.86 goals against average while making 86 saves (.835 save percentage).
In addition, Steiner posted seven shutouts in 2014.
The Wildcats saw their season come to a close on Tuesday night in Providence when they fell to the No. 23 Friars 2-1 in the quarterfinals of the BIG EAST Tournament.
