VILLANOVA, Pa. - Sophomore Ryan Arcidiacono became the latest member of the Villanova Wildcats to be honored for his efforts by the BIG EAST and Philadelphia Big Five on Monday. Arcidiacono was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll and is the Philadelphia Big Five Player of the Week.
Arcidiacono becomes the fifth Wildcat to be named to a BIG EAST Honor Roll this season, joining James Bell, JayVaughn Pinkston, Darrun Hilliard and Josh Hart. The native of Langhorne, Pa., joins Bell and Pinkston as winners of the City Series Player of the Week honor in 2013-14.
In a week when Villanova battled to the wire for wins at Providence (82-79 in double overtime) and against a red-hot St. John's unit at the Wells Fargo Center (a 57-54 triumph Saturday), Arcidiacono came up large. It was his drive for a traditional 3-point play that helped lift the Wildcats past the Friars on Tuesday night with 3.6 seconds to play in the second overtime. For good measure, he banked in a 3-pointer with 3:44 left in regulation to snap a 50-50 tie and give VU the advantage.
Arcidiacono averaged 16.4 points and 4.5 assists for the week while committing just two turnovers in 80 minutes of action.
The Wildcats - who were climbed one spot to No. 8 in the Associated Press poll on Monday - host Butler in a BIG EAST clash on Wednesday night at the Pavilion.
