Sept. 2, 2014 PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - After seeing Tuesday night's match halted by thunderstorms, Villanova and Drexel will face one another on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at Vidas Field. Since the original contest lasted just over 42 minutes, it is null and void. Wednesday's game will be a new one.
The Wildcats bounced back from a season opening loss at Marist with a strong first half against Drexel on Tuesday night only to see their efforts thwarted by a series of thunderstorms which rolled through southeastern Pennsylvania. The match was halted by the officiating crew with 3:18 to play in the first half and the Wildcats holding a 1-0 advantage.
The two teams waited until 9:40 p.m. before it was decided the match would not resume. The Wildcats remain 0-1-0 while the Dragons retains their 1-0-0 mark.
Villanova picked up the only goal of the evening when Sean Sheridan re-directed a corner kick off the foot of Oscar Umar into the net. However, NCAA rules stipulate that statistics do not become official until a match does at the 70 minute mark.
